It may take doctors some time to be sure that a person has generalized anxiety disorder instead of something else.

According to the US National Comorbidity Survey Replication, 18.1% of Americans are affected by anxiety disorders.

Treatment is available for people with anxiety disorders. Researchers are also looking for new anxiety treatments that will help relieve symptoms.
