According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), an estimated 66% of U.S. adults 20 years and over are either overweight or obese based on a survey done in 2003-2004. The prevalence of obesity increased from 15% in the 1976–1980 survey to 32% in the 2003–2004 survey.
A report by England’s Department of Health using the Health Survey for England 2003 (HSE 2003) is predicting more than 12 million adults and one million children will be obese by 2010 if no action is taken. The report warns that, based on current trends, 33% of men and 28% of women will be obese by 2010. Their government says it is the “most accurate estimate so far” of future obesity rates.
