Xenical Weight Loss Pills
Xenical (Orlistat) has a primary function of preventing the absorption of fats from the human diet, thereby reducing caloric intake. It is designed to treat obesity including weight loss and weight maintenance when used with a reduced-calorie diet.
Xenical (Orlistat) works by inhibiting pancreatic lipase, an enzyme that breaks down triglycerides in the intestine. Without this enzyme, triglycerides from the diet are prevented from being hydrolyzed into absorbable free fatty acids and are excreted undigested.
The amount of weight loss achieved with Xenical (Orlistat) varies. Studies also show that the incidence of type 2 diabetes has reduced when taking Xenical (Orlistat).
Xenical Side Effects
Fatty/oily stool, oily spotting, intestinal gas with discharge, bowel movement urgency, poor bowel control, or headaches may occur when taking Xenical (Orlistat). Side effects are most severe when beginning therapy, and decrease in frequency with time. In clinical trials, nearly half of Xenical side effects lasted less than a week.
Xenical Dosage
At the standard prescription dose of 120 mg three times daily during (or up to one hour after) each main meal, Xenical prevents approximately 30% of dietary fat from being absorbed, and about 25% at the standard over-the-counter dose of 60 mg. Higher doses do not produce more potent effects.
Your daily intake of fat, protein and carbohydrate should be evenly spread over three main meals. If a meal is occasionally missed or contains no fat, skip that dose of the medication. Because this drug can interfere with absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (e.g., A,D,E,K), a daily multivitamin supplement containing these nutrients is recommended. Take the multivitamin at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking Xenical.
Health Tips
Eat Healthy. "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." There's more truth to this saying than we once thought. You are what you eat. What you eat and drink and what you don't eat and drink can definitely make a difference to your health. Eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day, less saturated fat and junk food can help improve your health and may reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases. Have a balanced diet, and watch how much you eat. Read more Health Tips »
